Reviews for The Tales of the Continuing Time

““Ambitious, successful... the stuff of high drama – achievement, tragedy, love, heroism, loyalty, dreams – handled easily ... If Moran can keep this up, he will gift us with one of the greatest series in memory. Don't miss.” – Tom Easton, Analog

“A fine, fast ride.” – Locus

“Full of intrigue, excitingly presented against an original and well-thought out background.” – Asimov’s

The Last Dancer is the third volume in the science fiction epic Tales of the Continuing Time.

The year is 2076. Three survivors of the Castanaveras genie massacre will help Occupied America celebrate her tricentennial in renewed revolution. For Trent the Uncatchable and twin telepaths, David and Denice, nothing is certain – not the future, not 60,000 years of human history, not even their loyalty to each other.

Although Daniel Keys Moran’s 5-star rated paperbacks have long been out of print, hardbound limited editions are listed as high as $400. All four books in the series, Emerald Eyes, The Long Run, The Last Dancer, and the long-awaited newest installment, The AI War The Big Boost are now on sale as e-books.

The Last Dancer Tales of the Continuing Time Book 3 eBook Daniel Keys Moran

Following the incredible "Long Run"'s amazing world building adventure and breathless speed, this one is a bit long winded. There is a LOT of story here and it's great stuff. Just maybe too much great stuff. It felt a lot like a movie that could have been edited down a little more but they left stuff in to get to a juicy 2 hour running time when a tighter 90 minutes would have been more satisfying.

One big problem I had was that I just never really got into Denice as the lead and was not as interested in her as I had been in Trent. A large part of the book sidetracks into the conflict between Sedon and Dvan which had potential that really didn't pay off in the end in any satisfying way. I can understand the impulse to not be obvious but there is also something to be said for giving the people what they want. What could have been an epic showdown ended up playing like two old drunks choking on their own vomit in their sleep. Kind of a waste after so much buildup.

All that said I still loved this book! I'm heading straight into the AI wars next and look forward to seeing where this is going. The series' "Darth Vader" has still yet to be dealt with, here's hoping there's a pumped X-Laser in that jackwagon's future!

I won't spoil it for you... but wow.

As for the rest - lots of drama, a bit too much infodump. Overall a very good story and well worth reading.
it took years but we are finally finding out what happened to Denice. Love love this series! I have all of them and am so glad to get them on my kindle. there is a sex scene that is a little too much for me and I dont understand what happened to David but I wait with baited breath the next book!!!!!
!
The Last Dancer has always been a favorite of mine; while Moran's writing may improved 100% from Emerald Eyes to The Long Run, he stepped up his game an order of magnitude here. The character development and rich history of ancient civilizations, alien races and future technologies weave a rich tapestry with political struggles and religious ideologies of a near-future earth, in which genetic engineering and moon colonies are as much a part of society as slums and witchcraft. A must read.
This is the sprawling classic of an uncelebrated SF master. I stumbled across it for the first time years ago, without knowing it was the third book in a series. It is wonderful alone and better in the series. It made fascinating guesses about cyberspace that hold up well. It is one of the little tragedies of the world that Moran’s didn’t write much more.
I completely agree this is my favorite book of all
Time I got it in ebook as my paperback copy is all but completely destroyed so I decided to read it for the 8th time I don't know if this book can be topped but I'm waiting for Daniel keys Moran to maybe get more stories of the splinter wars. And of course the AIs I can't get enough.
Daniel Keys Moran has long been one of my favorite authors in spite of his small volume of work. This is the 3rd book in his Tales of the Continuing time, and my second favorite. The story of the genegineered telepaths is a compelling one though I recommend you read it in a diffferent order than printed. I suggest you start with The Long Run, then this, then go back to the beginning to Emerald Eyes. There is also another volume now, The A.I. Wars that takes place after this story and is very good in and of itself, but does not resolve with a feeling of completion.
This one is the continuation of the story of Denice Castanaveras, a significant figure in the Continuing Time, a telepath and dancer. Dancer, here, has more than the meaning you might expect, but I don't want to spoil it for the reader.
I've been keeping my fingers crossed for years in hopes that the author will continue these tales. I shall continue to do so.
Simply amazing!! If you love science fiction, you are missing out one one of your favorite series if you haven't read this one. Start reading Emerald Eyes today, you will be hooked by the second book, and will never be the same!! You're still in the middle of the series with this nice fat book, so enjoy the trip!
